Fields notes from the Internet

Bringin' It All Home

Bringin' It All Home

I do not really have space on my computer for video games anymore. A bit more than a terabyte of music files has found its home in my hard drive and its honestly beginning to piss me off. Do I really need to listen to my music from local files like some boomer born in the 90's? Why do I uninstall and reinstall the same few games continuously to accommodate this eccentric, and honestly a bit freaky, insistence on running it locally?

It is not because of muh »tech giants« and not even for some placebo effect of enhanced »sound quality«. No hear me out man, only by listening to lossless and bit-perfect .wav files over gold-plated cables raised above the ground by cable lifters stored on your SSD designed for audiophiles do you get the complete experience of listening to your 80's music recorded by a bunch of 20 year olds fucked up on drugs.

So why? Well, there is not greater joy than that of anticipation. So while you wait for the answer, try to think about it yourself. Why would someone in our oh-so-modern world want to fill his computer up with audio files like an American at an all-you-can-eat buffet?

Over there, where the music is analog

This section is going to be about when I first started buying CDs, because the specific albums were not available on streaming platforms. Talk about the current state of streaming music and musicians not earning much (but, really, this is cope. owning your own music files is more about yourself than others, when all comes to all)

Home grown and well fed

This section is going to be about how I listen to music locally. Nice programs to use and so on. Also about my workflow of expanding my music collection. Maybe include visualizations of stats from my library.

The Disillusionist

This section is going to be about reverting and beginning to not really care about having the music myself. Exploring the internal logic of the person who gets tired of it all, and just wants to stream music on spotify. Arguing myself OUT of the position.

Gates of Eden

Conclusion. Explain the main point: That in a subscription based world where everything is just a service, and the goal is to have other people do as much work as possible for you, it is nice to do something deliberate. To take some control for yourself and actualize yourself in the world instead of remaining passive. Maybe find some way to round it off with a nice Bob Dylan lyrics (preferable from Gates of Eden).
