Jeg tav over for denne simple argumentation.

I could not put this book away when I first began reading it, and had to read it to end. It helps that it is a short story (novella), and that the Danish translation is excellent. I have a lot of thoughts about this book.

Firstly, one of the reasons I got this book was because I read it was a precursor to the stories of Arthur Machen and especially H.P. Lovecraft. I love those stories where the supernatural and the clinical, rational mind meet (a good movie version of this trope is The Exorcist, 1973. I have yet to read the book which the movie is based on). The protagonist is clearly depicted as a life-loving man, rational, and happy. And all of his encounters with »The Other« or »That Which Is Outside« is presented through his diary entries. He is clearly struggling to make sense of what is happening, and he even performs empirical experiments to understand what is going on. Just like the protagonist, the reader is constantly debating whether this man is simply mad from hallucinations, or has actually seen what he has seen and felt what he has so vividly journaled.

As a lover of Lovecraft's works, it also becomes obvious to me that his format must have been greatly inspired by »Horla«. The story was written just a few years before Lovecraft's birth. The style of the book is really a pre-digital version of the »found media« genre like Blair Witch. We're reading some old diary entries from a madman, and have to question, well, everything we know about human life and the world we inhabit. Either seek to understand it and risk falling into the same madness that tore down the author, or choose to dismiss the diary as an insane rambling. Madness or ignorance. Very Lovecraftian.

I have avoided summarizing the actual story, because I hate 'reviews' like that. The story is not more than two dozen pages. Go read it, if you care enough. I will end with the end, as I was extremely captivated as the protagonists possession (or his own delusions) drive him to finally get rid of his tormentor, by trapping this creature in his bedroom, and then burning down his own house. Only as his servants scream out in torment as they are burned alive, does he even remember that they exists. And as his house is destroyed in the flames, the feeling of being watched does not settle. A small doubt persists. What if »Horla« cannot be killed like you kill a human? What if »Horla« survived the fire? What if »Horla« will follow him forever? The solution, when dealing with a possesser who cannot be killed, is obviously to kill one self:

This is the first Lars Von Trier movie I have watched, which in itself is a bit of a surprise. Being small requires some level of inwardness, as you don't take up a lot of space in the world you learn to make do. So being Danish, it is common to have anything anywhere a Dane excels pushed into your path. And Lars (we are both Danish so I can use his first name) really is a big name in Danish cinema, however I have never had any of his stuff recommended to me. Having watched »The House That Jack Built« made me realize why. The movie is insane, offputting, disgusting. But also philopsophical and artistic - I definently understand why a lot of people would not actually enjoy watching this movie, even if it feels good to know the director is from the same country as oneself.

So, Jack has built a house. What does it look like, how did he do it, and was it worth it in the end?

I don't know shit about a pre-http world. I assume anyone who cares about it is old and half-blind from a life of myopic screen staring. That's also a nice excuse for not caring about it, or trying to care about it. Because hanging on to technology like IRC or Gopher, and writing hate comments on the HTTP-protocol, is clearly not walking the same direction as the winds of change are blowing.

This is a personal website meant to be both a blog, a note taker, and a way of grouping information together that I think I'd like to look at again in the future. Most likely thoughts on books I read, events that happen in the world, colletions of cooking recipes, image collections, events I want to attend. Stuff with some practical side to it, so it does not get too masturbatory like a vulture circling around the few original thoughts I do get.

The page is designed for desktop use. It is usable and considerations have been taken for phone use, but

To-do

Make color-mapping for cargo tags. E.g. "#literature" becomes blue.

Colors should be subtle and blend in nicely with the background

For pages with images, it might be fun to have a sidebar to the left dsiplaying them, kind of like a vertical film tape (but not styled like film tape).

Functional

Create a commenting system

Imagined as a simple sqlite database with some custom service on top.

Anon submissions, no logins or accounts

Should be pretty simple, good opoortunity to learn a new language to build it in too.

Create a guest book

Ties together with the commenting system, should just be the same service

Page metrics might be fun. Just number of unique views.

I do not really have space on my computer for video games anymore. A bit more than a terabyte of music files has found its home in my hard drive and its honestly beginning to piss me off. Do I really need to listen to my music from local files like some boomer born in the 90's? Why do I uninstall and reinstall the same few games continuously to accommodate this eccentric, and honestly a bit freaky, insistence on running it locally?

It is not because of muh »tech giants« and not even for some placebo effect of enhanced »sound quality«. No hear me out man, only by listening to lossless and bit-perfect
.wav
files over gold-plated cables raised above the ground by cable lifters stored on your SSD designed for audiophiles do you get the complete experience of listening to your favorite 80's music recorded by a bunch of 20 year olds fucked up on drugs.

So why? Well, there is not greater joy than that of anticipation. So while you wait for the answer, try to think about it yourself. Why would someone in our oh-so-modern world want to fill his computer up with audio files like an American at an all-you-can-eat buffet?

Over there, where the music is analog

This section is going to be about when I first started buying CDs, because the specific albums were not available on streaming platforms. Talk about the current state of streaming music and musicians not earning much (but, really, this is cope. owning your own music files is more about yourself than others, when all comes to all)

Home grown and well fed

This section is going to be about how I listen to music locally. Nice programs to use and so on. Also about my workflow of expanding my music collection. Maybe include visualizations of stats from my library.

The Disillusionist

This section is going to be about reverting and beginning to not really care about having the music myself. Exploring the internal logic of the person who gets tired of it all, and just wants to stream music on spotify. Arguing myself OUT of the position.

Gates of Eden

Conclusion. Explain the main point: That in a subscription based world where everything is just a service, and the goal is to have other people do as much work as possible for you, it is nice to do something deliberate. To take some control for yourself and actualize yourself in the world instead of remaining passive. Maybe find some way to round it off with a nice Bob Dylan lyrics (preferable from Gates of Eden).

Anyhow, this new NPM malware is of the worm-variant and is named after Herbert's sandworms »Shai Hulud«, though I find the naming too surface level. Wow, they are both worms. Cool. However, the worms in Dune are part of a delicate self-sustaining ecosystem and not parasites tearing through whatever they can find to spread further and further out.

Alright, I was about to call it quits on the autism, but this is a document about a cyber security vulnerability and Dune lore. Autism will continue until morale improves. So regarding this attack, it is actually pretty clever. Start by tricking a few people out of their credentials, gain covert access to their accounts, and use this to spread your malware to new repositories so they look clean. Keep going and keep harvesting people's credentials. Essentially impossible to be sure any repository you might download will not expose you... Fun times and not the first time the NPM ecosystem reveals its weaknesses. You can't even trust that well-respected code bases are not hit, since one of their 1170 package dependencies might be compromised, in the first degree, second degree, third degree, whatever. Trust nothing; verify everything; get owned anyway.

Andefedt (2-3 spiseskeer)

Hvidløg (hakket)

Persille (hakket)

Fremgangsmåde:

Skær kartofler i tynde skiver

Varme en pande op med andefedt

Steg kartofler i andefedtet

Pdf, plaintext, markdown, png.

Hvert stykke indhold ville have et unikt ID
