Close To The Sun

»Close To The Sun« is a pretty entertaining and very atmospheric first-person adventure game. It is clearly inspired by Bioshock, but with Rapture being the Titantic - a giant ship sailing around the world inviting the World's brightest to join it.

The game itself is pretty fine. It is janky and feels old, but still got its charm and honestly I did not mind it too much gameplay-wise. The set pieces are not very scary, but the levels themselves look great and bring out the atmosphere I imagine they intended for. The gameplay is just walking and solving some simple set-piece puzzles. And chase sequences. Which are terrible. The chase sequences have so little room for error, with a bunch of equally promising paths to pick, that I just ended up brute forcing them until I found the right combination of left/right choices to pick. Definitely the worst part of the game.

The story is fine, but promises much more than is delivered on. It almost seems on purpose, like they only gave us half the story to tell the remaining half at a later time - which will just never come. Maybe they were intending for a DLC. But the game just ends without any of the resolutions resolved.

Verdict: Fine and fun game. Worth a Sunday afternoon.
